*St Johns Public School crowned Mayor’s Cup champions*

Khabar kolkata News bureau: Anas Alam smashed a fighting unbeaten 93 while Piyush Karan bagged 5 for 38 as St Johns Public School outclassed Ratnakar North Point School by 123 runs in the final to emerge champions of the Mayor’s Cup Inter School tournament at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Congratulating the winning team and the runners up, CAB President Snehasish Ganguly said, "It was a wonderful final. Both teams put up a good show. I congratulate St Johns Public School for emerging champions. They played high intensity game and it nice to watch these young talents. I also congratulate Ratnakar North Point School who reached back-to-back finals."
This is the first time that a full length Mayor's Cup featuring 64 sides was completed in the first week of January.
He also lauded the Junior Tournament Committee for flawlessly executing this tournament with these budding cricketers and completing the meet well before time keeping the Board Exams in mind.
MMIC KMC Debasish Kumar, who was also present said, "I congratulate both the teams for displaying a good match. St Johns Public School played very well to come out winners while Ratnakar North Point School also performed well in the final. I would like to congratulate CAB President for completing Mayor's Cup within the first week of January. This is a record."
KKR CMO Binda Dey said, "It was a wonderful final. I congratulate both the teams for such a competitive final. Happy to be associated with such a fine tournament. I wish all the young players the best for the future."
10 cricketers scouted during the tournament will be groomed in the KKR academy.
Earlier, batting first, St Johns Public School, recovered from 78/7 to post a competitive 230 in 76.5 overs on Day 1.
In reply, Ratnakar North Point School were bundled out for just 107 in 61 overs on Day 2.
Besides, Piyush, Akhilesh Shukla bagged 4 for 45.
Earlier, put into bat, St Johns Public School batters were put to a stern test as they were 7 down for just 78.
However, a valiant effort by Anas, which saw him smash 10 boundaries and one six, put his team in a fighting position.
For Ratnakar North Point School, Raunav Hazra and Hriddhi Nag Chowdhury bagged three wickets each.
Chasing a tricky target, Ratnakar North Point School found themselves in deep trouble at 69 for 8.
Bijay Mondal, who top-scored with 38 runs, held fort at one end but wickets at regular intervals at the other end made it tough to chase the total down.
For his valiant match-winning knock, the man of the match was awarded to Anas.
The player of the tournament was awarded to Piyush for bagging 24 wickets in 7 matches.
After an outstanding bowling performance throughout the tournament, St Johns Public School's Piyush bagged the best bowler of the tournament award while Aman Kharwar won the Best batsman of the tournament award.
